How to Beat the Green Monster of the Swamp

Phase 1:


Antennae Lash: The Green Monster of the Swamp will raise his antennae and whip forwards twice. This will deal a decent amount of damage and quickly build up Decay. Dodge to the side twice to avoid.


Antennae Stab: The Green Monster of the Swamp will stab forwards multiple times with its antennae, dealing a lot of damage and Decay buildup. It isn't very obvious when this attack is coming - the Green Monster will raise up one arm, at which point you should dodge backwards multiple times.


Melee Swipes: The Green Monster of the Swamp can perform melee combos of swipes and slams. Some of these inflict Decay buildup. All melee hand attacks can be avoided by dodging backwards.


Dig: The Green Monster of the Swamp will dig underground. If you watch carefully, you can see a dust cloud moving around, showing the Monster's direction. Dodge at the last minute to avoid it bursting out of the ground.


Trample: The Green Monster of the Swamp will regularly charge or shuffle forward, dealing a lot of damage to anything it touches. Sprint and dodge to the side to avoid the path.


Phase 2:


The Puppet-Devouring Green Monster retains all of its moves from phase 1, combined with some moves previously seen on the Scrapped Watchman boss.


Overhead Swings: The Puppet-Devouring Green Monster will perform a combo of three attacks. Each one has a long wind-up, and is signalled by him raising a hand and spinning it before slamming it down. You can dodge the first two, but the third is a fury attack. Dodge backwards for the first two hits, and then run backwards to avoid the fury hit.


Trample 2: The Puppet-Devouring Green Monster will be able to lunge forward at much greater speed, dealing a lot of damage. It will repeat this up to three times, ending with a jump that is almost always a fury attack. Dodge to the side and get out of the path of each lunge, and perfect guard the last jump.

How to Beat

The Swamp Monster is the bane of many a player. This is a difficult to read boss that, in phase 2, goes absolutely berserk around the whole arena and is difficult to contend with. Now more than ever, a summoned Shade is recommended to even the odds.


The best recommendation for defeating the Green Monster of the Swamp is to keep your distance. The Swamp Monster only has a limited amount of attacks that can hit you if you stay at range, and these all have long wind-ups, making them easy enough to dodge or guard.


The recommended weapon for this is the Puppet Ripper, which you can get by trading the Burnt-White King's Ergo. This weapon has exceptionally high range with its fully charged heavy attack, and it's Fable move deals absolutely incredible damage. 


It is also strongly recommended to use the Falcon Eyes legion arm, which will essentially give you a cannon. Upgrade it so you can quickly deliver a double shot for a ton of extra ranged damage against the Green Monster of the Swamp.


Since the Green Monster of the Swamp, and its second phase, the Puppet-Devouring Green Monster, are both carcass type enemies, they are exceptionally weak to fire. It is highly recommended to use the Fire Grindstone for this fight, and making use of Thermite in excess certainly isn't a bad way to go either.


Combine these tips together and you really will make short work of the Green Monster of the swamp. Keep your distance, bait punishable long-distance attacks, and use fire - you'll have him down in no time!
