Best Strategy

The best way to beat Mad Tongue Alberich is to stay at medium distance and bait out certain attacks that can be punished. If you stay out of reach but not on the other side of the arena, he will attempt to perform some of his melee attacks, but won't quite manage to connect them. But first, remember that when you enter the arena, Mad Tongue Alberich will take a moment to spawn in on the other end. You can position yourself behind him and get a free backstab in if you time it right.

The first is his Sword Dance attack. This has a very brief window to get a hit or two in after he has completes his second swing. It is possible that he can follow up this second swing with an overhead attack, but this usually only come out if he manages to hit you with the first two.

If you keep your distance, Mad Tongue Alberich may attempt to sprint very close to you. This is usually an attempt to cast his Briars of Sin spell, and sometimes he will try to do a running slash instead. Generally though, this is incredibly easy to punish - if you see him sprinting, wait for him to get in range and then get some hits in. He should back off after two or three of your hits.

Occasionally, Mad Tongue Alberich will attempt a jump attack. He usually lands quite short of his target here, and the swipe itself doesn't have very long range, so if you see him jump, close in and get a couple of hits in while he recovers from his missed attack.

Movepool

Mad Tongue Alberich has both melee and magic at his disposal, and will use both to inflict very high damage, frostbite buildup and bleed buildup. His standard melee attacks follow the standard moveset used on scythe weapons, attacking with medium-speed swipes. These swipes cut through a portion of the defences that shields provide, so you must rely on distancing and dodging to avoid damage.

Freezing Mist: Mad Tongue Alberich will cast a mist which will quickly deal frostbite buildup if you are in it. This can also obscure your vision of Alberich, so be sure to reposition yourself carefully to ensure you are not in contact with the fog and that you can see Alberich clearly.

Glintstone Icecrag: Mad Tongue Alberich can quickly cast a ranged projectile with medium homing capabilities. Alberich can spam this as many times as he wants; during testing, we got him to use it sixteen times in a row, so be prepared to avoid this by dodging and running to the side.

Briars of Sin: If you are in close quarters with Mad Tongue Alberich, he may choose to perform a fairly quick-casting spell that creates a burst of damage in a short area around him. If you stay too close, he can double-cast this for a second, wider-range version.

Sword Dance: Mad Tongue Alberich can perform a quick double swipe with his scythe, dealing very high damage. Staying at a distance is important to avoid his attacks, but if you are too close, dodge backwards twice to avoid this attack.

Heal: Mad Tongue Alberich can step back and quickly heal with his flask, restoring a lot of health. If you can interrupt this then that is ideal, but it is difficult since he creates a fair amount of distance before attempting to do this.
