Best Strategy

The best way to beat the Godskin Apostle is to use status effects. The Godskin Apostle doesn't have high resistance to any damage types, however he does have very high damage and very swift combo attacks, making melee fights quite risky.

Strategy 1: Status Effects

The Godskin Apostle is especially weak to sleep, and we can take advantage of this heavily here. Make use of sleep-inducing attacks, found on the Sword of St. Trina, St. Trina's Torch, St. Trina's Arrows and Sleep Pots to put the Godskin Apostle to sleep.

You can then use the Poison Mist incantation, found from a Teardrop Scarab in the forest South East of the Castle Morne Rampart site of grace. This spell will not wake the Godskin Apostle, meaning you can safely apply Poison. It is easy to cast, requiring only 12 Faith.

Repeating this will successfully make the Godskin Apostle fight easy, but you can speed things along if you wish. While the Godskin Apostle is asleep and once Poison has been applied, you can then hit with something heavier, like the Rot Breath incantation, Rot Pots, or several hits from the Antspur Rapier to apply Scarlet Rot to the Godskin Apostle.

All you need to do is apply these status effects and step back. If you then stay at a distance from the Godskin Apostle at all times, the only dangerous attack you can expect is his black fireball, which is easy to dodge. As the Godskin Apostle's health depletes, your only priority will be keeping your distance.

Strategy 2: Melee

If you plan to go toe-to-toe with the godskin Apostle, you may have a difficult time. His attacks are fast and deal a surprising amount of damage, often coming in combos of several hits in quick succession.

It is recommended to use fast weapons imbued with Bleed and Frostbite, since the Godskin Apostle is weak to both. Dual wielding curved swords or twinblades with jump attacks is an excellent way to activate burst-damage status effects like Bleed and Frostbite.

If you stay at a medium distance from the Godskin Apostle, you can bait out several punishable attacks. The first is his jump and slam, which has a moment of recuperation for you to get a hit in after you dodge the attack. The same goes for the fireball - dodge forward to avoid the projectile, and get a hit in before backing away.

In phase 2, the Godskin Apostle has two new punishable attacks. The first is his spinning twinblade. If you get caught in this, you may die, however it is easily avoided by dodging forward and to the side of the Godskin Apostle. He will then proceed to finish his attack animation without tracking you, allowing you to get several hits in. The second is his stretching slam and swipe combo. When you see him stretch upwards, dodge forward and get a hit in at his legs before they rejoin the rest of his body. This will also leave you clear of the swipe that follows.

Strategy 3: Ranged

Sorcerers have an easier time of things with the Godskin Apostle. Stay well to the other side of the arena and bombard the Godskin Apostle with spells that have a short cast time. If you use long cast time attacks, you open yourself up to the Apostle punishing you with fireballs. Do not be discouraged by how much the Godskin Apostle dodges your ranged attacks - keep up the damage and you will be fine.

The Glintstone Icecrag spell is especially good for dealing decent damage and applying Frostbite, and Night Comet cast with a high spell damage catalyst with the Staff of Loss in the offhand will deal tremendous damage, and the Godskin Apostle will never dodge this attack.

For bow users, a fast bow is highly recommended. Jump attacks with the black bow are an excellent option here, and making use of Rotbone Arrows and Serpent Arrows will apply those valuable status effects quite quickly here.

Movepool

Both Phases:

Black Fireball: The Godskin Apostle will summon a black fireball in his hand and hurl it at you after a moment. It deals pretty high damage and applied a damage over time effect as well. He will almost always use this when you try to heal, and often when you cast a spell.

Jump Slash: The Godskin Apostle will quickly jump into the air and slam down, slashing at you swiftly. Dodge backwards to avoid this and then punish with a hit.

Hook Stab: The Godskin Apostle will stab forward with one end of his weapon, and then hook round with the other end, dealing high damage with both hits. The second part of this hit has a surprisingly wide range and decent reach. Dodge backwards rather than to the side.

Spinwheel: The Godskin Apostle will spin his weapon in front of him, dealing incredibly high damage. If you manage to dodge forwards and to the side of the Godskin Apostle, you will get a lot of time to get hits in here.

Slash Combo: The Godskin Apostle will perform melee combos of stabs and slashes that come out fast and deal high damage. Keep your distance from him to stay out of range of these attacks.

Phase 2 Only:

Spinwheel Stretch: Similar to the Spinwheel attack, but the Godskin will stretch his body, propelling his top half forward to cover high range. Dodging backwards is not effective, but dodging forward will give you a lot of time to get hits in on his legs.

Stretch Sweep: The Godskin Apostle will stretch his body upwards and slam his weapon a good distance in front of him. He will then pull his legs to rejoin his body, and perform a wide sweep around his new location. Dodge forward for the first hit and get some damage on his legs. At this point, you should be out of range of the sweep.

Black Flame Tornado: The Godskin Apostle will stand in place and spin his weapon, creating black flames in a circle around him. Each spin will cause another circle of flames to erupt in a wider and wider circle. Keep your distance and start dodging back when you see this attack coming.

Black Flame Stretch: The Godskin Apostle will stretch his body and swing the top half in a circle around his legs, dealing high damage from the sweeping attack and more damage from the black flames that erupt along his trajectory.
